Frozen Shoulder

Frozen shoulder is an injury to the shoulder joint. It is typically characterized by pain and stiffness that start gradually, worsen, and then subside. This process can take between a year and three years.

Your shoulder is composed of three bones that come together in a ball-and-socket fashion. They are the humerus (upper arm), the scapula (shoulder blade), and the collarbone (clavicle). Additionally, there is tissue that surrounds your shoulder joint that helps hold everything together, called the shoulder capsule.

With frozen shoulder, the capsule gets so thick and constricted that movement becomes difficult. Bands of scar tissue grow and there is less synovial fluid to lubricate the joint. These factors further restrict movement.

How Ayurveda can help

Ayurveda assists in resolving the underlying causes and enhancing an individual’s entire lifestyle. When used in conjunction with pharmaceutical and Ayurvedic therapies, this treatment can provide long-term relief from frozen shoulder.

Ayurvedic Remedies

Ayurveda offers unmatched herbs that have been clinically shown to lower the pain and discomfort in frozen shoulder, like Rasna, turmeric, Guggulu and Ashwagandha.

Kizhi

Kizhi is an Ayurvedic treatment that entails applying heated poultices to the body that contain herbal oils, powders, or medication formulations. The warmth of the poultices, when combined with the active elements in the herbs and oils, promotes circulation and relieves pain and stiffness.

  • Kizhi helps to relieve pain and stiffness in the shoulder region; it stimulates blood circulation and lymphatic drainage, reviving the dry shoulder tissue.
  • It also aids in the reduction of swelling and inflammation in the affected area.
  • In general, it helps to regenerate the shoulder joint, improving muscle flexibility and tone.
